In the book, Front Desk, by Kelly Yang, every day while her immigrant parents clean the rooms, ten-year-old Mia manages the front desk of the Calivista Motel and tends to its guests. They have never been able to afford a lot of things. Her parents hide immigrants because they know how people feel when they don’t have a place to stay. Mia manages to find a friend to help her through this time. If the horrible motel owner, Mr. Yao, finds out they’ve been letting them stay in the empty rooms for free, the Tangs will be doomed and may not have a place to stay. But with the luck of the residents, the Tangs may just be able to buy the motel. What will happen next to the Tangs? Will they be able to stay in California or move back to China? During Ally’s journey, she meets two people who are about to become her friends, and their names are Keisha and Albert. Ally also has an enemy named Shay and her posse. Ally has to find a way to over concor her disability which is dyslexia. She will have more challenges to face. Also will need more people like her teacher to help her. She has cerebral palsy which is a struggle for the difficulty of muscle coordination.
